This document was developed to provide current users of Pathlore
Registrar®, Classroom Learning System (CLS), Online Learning
System (OLS) and the full LMS with answers to commonly asked questions
about upgrading to Pathlore LMS 5 and specific questions
about the latest release of LMS 5.5 Service Pack 1 (SP1),
Pack 2 (SP2) and Pack 3 (SP3).

AND FEATURES
When was
the first release of LMS 5 for current LMS - Classroom Edition
(CLS) and Registrar Edition (RAS) users?
The first release of LMS 5 for LMS Classroom and LMS Registrar
users was LMS 5.2 made available in March 2002.
When was
the first product release of LMS 5 for current LMS and OLS users?
The first release of LMS 5 for existing LMS and OLS customers
was LMS 5.3 made available in May 2002.
What is
the current release of LMS 5?
The current release of LMS 5 is LMS 5.5 SP3 available for Pathlore
LMS Enterprise, Pathlore LMS Classroom, and Pathlore LMS Registrar®
users. The LMS 5.5 release was made available in September 2002.
The Service Pack 1 (SP1) release of LMS 5.5 was made available
in January of 2003. Service Pack 2 was made available in May of
2003. The latest release of Service Pack 3 (SP3) was made available
in November of 2003.
What databases
does LMS 5 work with?
LMS 5 works with MS SQL Server, Oracle and MSDE (Classroom and
Registrar Edition) databases.
Is Xbase
available as a database platform in LMS 5?
Xbase is NOT available as a database platform
in LMS 5. Xbase users need to move to a Relational Database Management
System - RDBMS (MSDE, MS SQL Server or Oracle) prior to upgrading
to the latest release of LMS 5.5 SP3.
Is Report
Writer offered as a report-writing tool in LMS 5?
Pathlore's Report Writer is no longer available as a reporting
tool in LMS 5. Xbase customers will need to move to a third-party
reporting tool. Our recommendation is Crystal Reports®
by Crystal Decisions.
Is Pathlore's
Report Writer Conversion utility (tool for converting
Report Writer report definitions to Crystal Reports) available
in LMS 5?
The Report Writer Conversion utility does not ship with LMS 5.5.
Customers will need to convert their reports to Crystal Reports
prior to upgrading to LMS 5.5 SP3.
Is Pathlore's
Phone Self Service option be available for LMS 5?
Phone Self Service (PSS) support for LMS 5 became available with
release LMS 5.3 (May 2002).
Will OLS
Author be offered in LMS 5?
The OLS Author will not be shipped with LMS 5. However, LMS customers
can continue to use their existing authoring functionality
even after upgrading to the new release. Customers will need to
maintain their 4.x database for content creation, storage and
delivery. The LMS 5 manuals will not contain any information on
the OLS Author. Customers wanting to continue using this tool
will need to retain their LMS 4.0 manuals for reference.
If LMS customers want to continue to use their OLS-Authored courses
in LMS 5, they will need to install the OLS Compatibility Pack
that will be shipped to them with the product. For further details,

What are
the enhancements in LMS 5?

What
is the Pathlore Skills Management System (SMS)?
The Pathlore Skills Management System is a new, web-based, add-on
option to the Pathlore LMS Enterprise that allows you to plan,
deliver and manage a comprehensive approach to organizational
skills development. Fully integrated with the Pathlore LMS, this
is a separately licensable option available to users of the full
Pathlore LMS Enterprise system.

UPGRADE
REQUIREMENTS & SUPPORT
What is
the upgrade path for Registrar customers on 7.0?
Registrar customers, active on CCP, can upgrade directly to Pathlore
LMS Registrar 5.5, IF you are on a RDBMS. Registrar users
still using Xbase must move to a RDBMS prior to
upgrading to LMS Registrar 5.5 or moving up to Pathlore LMS Classroom
or LMS Enterprise.
I am on
an earlier version of Registrar that does not support RDBMS (Xbase
Registrar 7.0.3 & below), how can I add RDBMS support?
If you are ready to move to a RDBMS and you are on an older version
of Registrar (7.0.3 or earlier) you will need to contact your
Account
Manager at 888-PATHLORE
to request your copy of Pathlore LMS Registrar 5.5. By updating
your system to the latest release of 5.5 you will obtain RDBMS
support for the software.
Is there
a charge for the LMS 5.5 SP3 upgrade?
Customers current on Pathlore's Customer Care Plan (CCP) are entitled
to a free upgrade of the products and options that they are licensed
for.
Can I
get the LMS 5.5 SP3 upgrade for my product not currently covered
under CCP?
Yes. In order to receive the upgrade you will first need to re-activate
your annual CCP maintenance plan. Once activated, your product
upgrade can be shipped free of charge. Please contact your Account
Manager to renew your CCP at 888-PATHLORE.
What are
the System Requirements for LMS 5.5 SP3?
Please refer to the Minimum
System Requirements located under the Product Section of the
Customer Zone.

will be shipped with LMS 5?
The following manuals will ship with the new release of LMS 5.5

Are services recommended to upgrade to LMS 5.5?
We recommend that you consider using Pathlore Services to assist
in upgrading your system but they are not required. Contact your
Account Executive for complete details and pricing.

What Pathlore
services are available to assist customers interested in adding
