What is
an Authoring tool?
An Authoring tool is a program that has pre-programmed elements
for development of multimedia, interactive content. It is a tool
that a company may use to develop self-paced content There are hundreds
of Authoring tools available in the market today. Some of these
tools are written to deliver content for specific platforms such
as Windows. Others are designed to be web-based, allowing authors
to create content that can be delivered over a web browser.
What is
OLS Author?
OLS Author (f.k.a. Phoenix Author) is an Authoring tool that was
designed to author and deliver content to Windows-based PC's or
inside a web browser (with a Windows-based plug-in).
What is
Pathlore's future strategy related to Authoring?
The market trend is to build content using authoring tools that
are specifically created for web-based content creation. The Pathlore
LMS is a web-based platform, therefore our strategy is to repurpose
our internal skills to supporting the best-of-breed Authoring
tools in the market place for web-based content creation.
What is
the future of OLS Author?
We no longer offer OLS Author as part of LMS/OLS or separately
as an option with our products. If you already own OLS Author.
You can continue to use the existing authoring functionality in
LMS 5.3.
Does this
affect Pathlore's Assessment authoring capabilities in the product?
No, it does not. Pathlore has a very robust web-based Assessment
Tool that is separate from the OLS Author. The web-based Assessment
authoring and delivery tool is used to easily and effectively
develop and deploy performance-based assessments over the web
in a secured environment. For further details, please contact
your Account Executive.
Can customers
that already own OLS Author continue to use it with LMS 5.0?
Yes, you can. If you already own the OLS Author, you can continue
to use the OLS Author to create and run windows-based courses.
This support is available in LMS 5.3.
How long
will Technical Support be provided to users of OLS Author?
We will continue to provide Technical Support on OLS Author for
a reasonable amount of time. The end date for this support has
not been decided and will depend on the market situation and our
internal strategies.
Will we
continue to provide training on OLS Author?
We do not offer onsite OLS Authoring workshops any more. If you
need training on OLS Author, please contact your
Account Executive to schedule it as a services assignment.

need to author your own content, can we offer you any authoring
tool options?
If you are looking for a web-based Authoring tool, we encourage
you to take a look at the industry-leading Authoring tools that
Pathlore has partnered with. You can review information on our
partnerships by visiting the Pathlore
web site.
If the tool
of your choice is not Pathlore certified, please contact your
Account Executive to explore certification options.
What Macromedia
tools is the Pathlore LMS currently certified with?
Pathlore LMS is certified to work with Macromedia Web Learning
Studio, Trainersoft and Click2Learn's ToolBook authoring tools.
